Janice Pope White, 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at the Wilson Pines surrounded by her family.
Janice was born in Johnston County on April 22, 1938 to the late William Guy and Inez Howard Pope. She worked many years in State and City Government serving as the special assistant officer for the Governor of Alaska as well as many state officials. Janice’s true love and passion was art. She has a strong concentration on ceramic sculpture, and oil and water color paintings. Janice had many of her drawings and sculptures displayed across the country in multiple art exhibits including the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. She received her BFA in visual art from the University of Alaska Anchorage and her MPA from the University of Alaska Southeast.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service, followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Charles Renfrow officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Kenly Cemetery.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of fifty six years, George White; sisters, Faye McLain and husband Charles, Cindy Hooks and husband Jimmy, and Brenda P. Lewis all of Kenly; sister-in-law Joyce Pope; and brother-in-law Glen Edgerton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Edgerton; and brothers, Frank Pope and Wayne Pope.
