Bulldogs rally to win at James Kenan in opener

WARSAW — After trailing 38-33 at halftime, the Princeton High varsity boys basketball team rallied for a season-opening 77-65 victory at James Kenan on Monday, Nov. 19.

The 1-A Carolina Conference Bulldogs seized control in the third quarter with 24 points and held on for the nonconference win. It was also the first game for the 2-A East Central Conference Tigers, who lost their second game to Pender County.

Sophomore Jaheim Taylor paced Princeton with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while senior Colby Sullivan dropped in 17 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Tyrese Joyner and senior Alan Farrior each netted 13 points for the Bulldogs. Joyner, who drilled three 3-pointers, finished with five rebounds and four assists while Farrior snatched six rebounds.

The Bulldogs, who were scheduled to host Spring Creek on Tuesday, Nov. 27, have games at Midway on Thursday, Nov. 28, and at North Johnston on Friday, Nov. 30.

In the varsity girls game, a fierce rally by the Bulldogs came up short in a 40-38 loss. Princeton trailed 22-12 at the half and 31-22 after three quarters before outscoring the Tigers 16-9 in the fourth quarter. No individual information was available for Princeton.

WENDELL — Senior Tyler Wooten recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Corinth Holders varsity boys basketball team claimed a 62-53 season-opening victory over visiting West Johnston on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Marcus Bland added 14 points for the Pirates while Justin Stephens had eight points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats, also playing their opener, got eight points each from Eli Hudson and Anthony Shaw.
