SMITHFIELD — The N.C. State University Extension Service will hold a Tobacco Day seminar for all tobacco growers and industry personnel from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210.
Key highlights of the event include discussion of labor issues, the tobacco economic situation and recognition of tobacco greats. The program will begin promptly at 8:30 and end with lunch. Registration is not required.
Lions selling brooms on Saturday
PINE LEVEL — The Pine Level Lions Club will be selling brooms at Town Market in Pine Level from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8.
Flat brooms and heavy-duty patio brooms manufactured by Industries for the Blind in Greensboro will be available. All proceeds go to the North Carolina Lions Sight First program that helps supply eye exams, new and used eyeglasses, screening programs, white canes, Braille reading materials and other services for the visually impaired.

Church plans Christmas concert
KENLY — David and Judy George and Shelia Collier will perform in a Christmas concert scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at Hickory Cross Gospel Center, 3713 Hickory Cross Crossroads. The concert is free and everyone is welcome.
Drive-thru live Nativity scheduled
PRINCETON — Hephzibah Baptist Church, 4633 U.S. 70 E., will have a drive-thru live Nativity display from 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 through Friday, Dec. 14. Attendees will hear the story of Jesus’ birth through music and biblical narration from the warmth of their cars.
