WENDELL — Playing a tough game against the winner of the last three 4-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships, the Corinth Holders High varsity football team held Wake Forest High to its second-fewest points of the season on Friday night.
In a 4-A Northern Athletic Conference battle, the visiting Cougars (7-1, 2-0) easily rolled to a 34-7 victory.
But at halftime, Corinth Holders (4-4, 0-2) trailed by just 10 points after holding Wake Forest scoreless in the second quarter.
Taking a 10-0 lead into the half, the Cougars took over in the third quarter, putting up 10 more points to take a 20-0 lead. When Corinth Holders finally scored in the fourth quarter, it was not enough as Wake Forest put up two more scores to close out the win.
Corinth Holders will travel to Raleigh Wakefield on Friday for another conference game.
