Preparations for Hurricane Florence on Monday included changing athletic schedules for area high schools. Since it’s a nearly foregone conclusion that no football will be played Friday, some teams have opted to use their open week to move this week’s games. Hunt and Beddingfield will meet in the second round of the Wilson County Championship on Friday, Sept. 28, at Warrior Stadium. The day before — Thursday, Sept. 27 — Fike will host Clayton and Southern Nash will visit Wake Forest.
Two area teams will take advantage of the storm not being forecast to make land until late Thursday or early Friday by moving their games to Wednesday. SouthWest Edgecombe and Tarboro will renew their rivalry on the Vikings’ field while Greene Central will visit Farmville Central in another rivalry tiff.
The C.B. Aycock-North Johnston game in Kenly is still scheduled for Friday, according North Johnston athletic director Nicole Davis. The game was unable to be moved to Wednesday so the makeup date is Monday, Sept. 17. Davis said that if the game isn’t played by then, it won’t be made up.
Community Christian reset its eight-player football game at Bethel Christian in Kinston from Friday to Tuesday.
Other reported changes from Thursday to Wednesday have Fike hosting Swansboro in boys soccer and Franklinton in volleyball, Hunt girls tennis at Franklinton and Beddingfield visiting North Pitt in volleyball.
