FUQUAY-VARINA — Kendall Sykes served for eight aces among her 19 points in leading the Wilson Christian Academy volleyball team to a 25-6, 25-11 North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A East Region rout of Hilltop Christian of Fuquay-Varina on Tuesday.

The Lady Chargers improved to 2-0 in the region and to 5-3 overall.

Complementing Sykes were Peyton Norville with three kills, eight digs, 12 points and three aces; Chloe Willard with 14 assists, six points and two aces; Reagan Barnes with six kills, five digs, six service points and an ace; Paige Barnes with five kills and two digs; and Ellyn Watson with seven assists.

Firebirds conquer Corinth Holders

STANHOPE — The host Southern Nash boys soccer team notched its first win against Corinth Holders in five years by a 2-1 margin on Monday.

The outcome kept the Firebirds undefeated.

Southern Nash benefited from a stellar performance from Lyland Herndon. Herndon assisted Raul Nunez’s goal and, with a super individual effort, knocked in the match-winner.

The Firebirds kick off 3-A Big East Conference competition Monday at Fike.

Lady Knights end four-match slide

The Greenfield School volleyball team ended a four-match slide with a 25-20, 25-20 sweep of visiting Community Christian School on Monday.

Coach Jadelyn Castillo credited a total team effort in the Lady Knights victory.

Previously, Greenfield lost 27-25, 25-22 to Lawrence Academy; 25-14, 20-25, 25-23 to Friendship Christian; 25-13, 25-10 to Faith Christian; and 25-15, 25-6 to Ridgecroft School.
