UPDATE Selma vehicle accident victims identified

Three people were injured Monday night when their SUV rolled over on NC Hwy 39 near Old Dam Road.

The accident happened at 11:46 p.m. The NC Highway Patrol reports the the accident victims were in a red Mazda Tribute SUV.

The driver was identified as James Narron III, of Batten Park Road, Selma. He and two passengers, his 13-year-0ld daughter Tristan and a family friend, Timothy Cannon, were traveling north on NC Hwy 39.

A Highway Patrol spokesperson said they had left Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield and were on their way to the Narron’s home when the vehicle ran off the roadway on the right, struck a steep ditch, hit a culvert and overturned.

Rescue crews cut two people out of the vehicle. Cannon was airlifted to WakeMed and James and Tristan Narron were transported to WakeMed by ambulance.

A WakeMed spokesperson said all three people were in fair condition.

The Highway Patrol stated the accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
