Country couple turns watermelons into thriving hobby

Larry Boyette, who lives on a farm near Rock Ridge, said when he and his wife, Ann, began trying to raise pumpkins as a hobby in 1998 it did not take them but just a couple of years to realize pumpkins were too hard to grow and extremely expensive to raise.

“We decided to get into growing giant watermelons in 2004,” said Boyette. “If you live in the country and want to work you have got to have something.”
