Bulldogs, Panthers compete at regionals

The Bulldogs’ Lane Woodall led the Princeton boys cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the 1A Mideast Regional.

Runners from both the North Johnston and Princeton cross country teams competed in the regional meets on Oct. 28.

Twelve runners competed for North Johnston in the 2A East Regional held at Washington High School. 

Jared Glover set a personal best and led the Panthers’ boys contingent with a time of 19 minutes and 39 seconds, good for 43rd place out of 138 runners. Trace Shirley finished the course in 21:25 and Jake Starling dropped his time to 22:05 to finish 89th and 96th, respectively.

Nathan Woodard, freshman Jordan Johnson and Will Stallings also all competed for the boys team.

For the North Johnston girls squad, Haley Bunn posted the fastest time (25:29) for a 60th place finish. Mackenzie and Sydney Swartz were next in line for the Panthers at 26:43 and 27:08.

Caroline Leegins and Rachel Foster posted personal records and Sarah Hinnant rounded out the Panthers’ girls’ entry.

For Princeton, the boys finished in ninth place at the 1A Mideast Regional at Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Complex and were led by junior Lane Woodall, who came in 34th with a time of 19:26.63.
