After Princeton’s thrilling 28-27 overtime win over rivals Rosewood last week, Bulldogs coach Travis Gaster told his team they were guaranteed just one more, but they could play more than that.
The guaranteed one will come in the first round of the NCHSAA 1AA playoffs this Friday night as Princeton travels to Williamston to take on Riverside.
If that name sounds familiar, it should.
The Bulldogs outlasted the Knights 70-64 last year in a wild opening round matchup that took four overtimes and over three hours to decide.
The Knights finished tied for third place at 3-3 in the Coastal Plains Conference this season which features undefeated perennial power Tarboro.
Junior Brandon Beach has thrown for 1,184 yards this year including 14 touchdown passes versus seven interceptions and run for 442 yards and nine more scores.
Beach has two main targets he likes to throw the ball to-Jadakis Bonds (41 receptions, 615 yards) and Ah’shaan Belcher (25 receptions, 304 yards).
Nakwon Burns is Riverside’s feature back and the junior has rushed 100 times for 576 yards.
Princeton has won five of its last six opening round games.
