NC State economist says Johnston County is faring well

A prominent N.C. State University economist spoke on the strengths and weaknesses of the local, state and national economy.

“Johnston County has seen phenomenal growth,” said Dr. Michael Walden. “When a metropolitan area grows and land prices go up in Raleigh and Wake County, it motivates people to move to less dense areas like Johnston County where they trade off transportation for affordable housing.”

Walden said Johnston County’s job totals have increased twice as much as the state and that local unemployment has gone down.

But Walden said there are issues that Johnston County must address.
