NJHS players receive fall awards

North Johnston fall athletic teams had a successful season on the courses, courts and fields and many student athletes were recognized for achievements as the Eastern Plains Conference released its all-conference teams and player of the year awards.

The Panthers were led by three different athletes getting player of the year in their respective sports as Nina Bohunska (girls tennis), Barrett Davis (co-player of the year in volleyball) and Adolfo Rosales (boys soccer) received top honors for the parts they played in leading their teams to conference titles.

Bohunska was 29-1 in singles play as the Panthers’ girls tennis team’s No. 1 player. Bohunska was also 12-1 in doubles action and advanced to the semifinals of the NCHSAA 2A state tennis singles championships after winning the east regional championship.

Rosales scored 18 goals and had 13 assists for the North Johnston boys soccer team that went 9-1 in the Eastern Plains this season on its way to claiming the conference title outright. Rosales was the creative attacking midfielder for the Panthers who also was named to the all-region and all state teams.

Barrett Davis helped lead the Panthers to one of their best seasons in volleyball as the Panthers went 9-1 in the EPC including big wins over Farmville Central and North Pitt.

David Anderson and Nicole Davis were also recognized with coaches of the year awards in girls tennis and volleyball.
