The ninth annual Kenly Community Reverse Raffle fundraiser sponsored by Kenly American Legion Post 328 will be held Saturday, March 3, at Wilson County Moose Lodge, 2705 Forest Hills Road in Wilson.
The event will benefit local groups including North Johnston High School ROTC, Kenly Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, homeless veterans, Kenly Area Ministries, American Legion Kenly Post 328 and local churches who have requested assistance, according to event chairman Jacky Ballance.
“Also, in the past we have contributed to such projects as the walking track at KAPARC, restoring the old fire engine at Kenly fire department and Johnston County veterans council,” said Ballance.
The meal will begin at 6 p.m. and the raffle will start at 7 p.m.
Grand prize is $5,000, which goes to the last ticket drawn, with other prizes being awarded as each 50 numbers are drawn said Ballance.
The ticket price is $100 each that includes dinner for two and entertainment. Two hundred tickets will be sold.
The meal will consist of barbecued chicken, baked potato, salad, roll, tea and dessert.
Entertainment will be provided by Jimmy Hinnant of “I’m A Girl Watcher” fame and his band “Fandango” along with an appearance an Elvis impersonator, said Ballance. “Guests will have a chance to request their favorite songs and join in the singing of various patriotic songs and popular hymns and there could be dancing.
“Since most reverse raffle events tend to get boring we wanted to do things a little different this year and include some entertainment that will begin during the meal,” said Ballance.
“We then plan to draw some numbers and return to entertainment that will continue for the rest of the evening while we keep drawing numbers.”
Ballance said the event was moved to Wilson this year to better accommodate having a live band and a stage and to provide more room for dancing.
Tickets can be obtained by calling Jacky Ballance at 919-901-5432, Keenan Hinnant at 919 631-0866 or 919 284-2392 or by contacting any member of Kenly American Legion Post 328.
