Selma’s MLK service set Jan. 15

By Steve Reed

Selma Mayor Cheryl Oliver will be the keynote speaker at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. It will be held on Monday, Jan. 15 at the Harrison Alumni Center, located at 605 W. Noble St.

I feel very honored to be asked to speak at our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Service,” said Oliver. “I have always found the speakers at this event to be inspirational, challenging and encouraging.

“I hope the words I share will continue this tradition.”

Rev. Johnnie McPhail, national president, Richard B. Harrison Alumni Association, said the idea to invite Oliver came to him at last year’s service.

McPhail is pastor of St. Luke AME Church in Wilson.
