Panthers drop two

The North Johnston girls basketball team witnessed some strong individual performances last week but, unfortunately for the Panthers, many of those came from players on opposing teams.

In a 43-39 loss against SouthWest Edgecombe, the Cougars’ Shayla Ellis had a monster night making 11-of-16 shots from the field on her way to a 25-point, 15-rebound performance. Al-onee Smallwood also helped the visitors to dominate on the glass as she pulled down 15 rebounds as well, and SouthWest outscored the Panthers 16-13 in the fourth quarter to eke out the victory.
