The North Johnston boys tennis team, coming off a conference championship season last year, lost 10 seniors to graduation, so it stands to reason that the going may be a little bumpy to start this season.
The Panthers traveled across the county last week to open up this year’s campaign to square off against 3A West Johnston and lost to the Wildcats, 9-0.
Michael Barnes, North Johnston’s No. 1 seed, lost 6-1, 6-1 to West Johnston’s Albert Boswell. Panthers sophomore Scott Sellars took four games in the opening set but fell to Brandon Raynor, 6-4, 6-0.
