Princeton police update on murder arrest

On Friday April 6, a warrant was issued for Marcus Anthony Currie, age 26, for the shooting death of Michael Lorenzo Joyner, 34, of Columbia, SC

On Tuesday April 10, 11:40am, Currie was apprehended and taken into custody without incident by Princeton Police, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation agents, Probation Parole and the Johnston County Sheriff Office at his residence at 292 Buck Dunn Rd., Four Oaks.

Currie is charged with first degree murder. He recently served thee years in the North Carolina Department of Corrections for possession of a firearm by a felon, speeding to elude arrest, habitual misdemeanor assault and being a habitual felon. He was released on post release supervision in Sept. 13, 2017.

On Monday April 02, at 4:36pm Princeton Police were dispatched to the 300 block of South Elm Street. Upon arrival police observed the body of a black male lying face down in the road with a gunshot wound to the head, hand and both legs.

EMS, medical staff, emergency personnel and several other law enforcement officials arrived on the scene. EMS pronounced the victim dead. The victim was identified as Joyner.

The SBI assisted Princeton with the investigation. Currie is being held without bond, pending his first court appearance,
