Top honors go to area 4-H youth

Ross Hinnant and Andrew Jones, both of Kenly, and Logan Ballance of Lucama, came home with top awards at the 67th annual Wilson 4-H Livestock Show and Sale.

Hinnant had the grand champion steer.

Jones had the grand champion individual market hog while Ballance had the grand champion pen-of-three market hogs as they took top honors at the 67th annual Wilson County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale held Thursday night, March 29 at Wilson American Legion Fairgrounds.     

These entrants were among some 93 area youngsters who got a taste of agriculture and commerce as they watched livestock they had raised themselves being sold at auction to the highest bidder.

82 entrants raised pigs and 11 raised steers at the event that has become recognized as one of the best of its kind in the southeastern United States.

Hinnant’s grand champion steer was bought by GETSco for $10,625.
