Princeton girls regional runners-up

The Princeton girls track and field team parlayed a strong performance in the 1A Mideast regional to finish second with 111 points, just nine behind Pender.

Shamonda Bell was outstanding as she won the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and 200-meter dash in addition to coming in second in the 100 to give the Bulldogs 38 points.

Powell/five Panthers to represent North at states

The North Johnston girls track and field team finished in seventh place at the 2A Mideast regional held last week in Pembroke.

Tatiana Powell finished in second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.13 seconds to qualify for the state championships later this week. She finished just outside of state championship qualifying in the 100-meter dash with a fifth-place finish.

Lady Panthers soccer bows out

The North Johnston girls soccer team’s season ended last Wednesday night as the Panthers fell to a tough Whiteville team, 5-0, in the opening round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs.

The Wolfpack’s Claire Smith and Olivia Smith tallied first half goals and helped put the Panthers in a 2-0 hole at the break. In the second half, Olivia Smith found the back of the net again as did Marley Gore and Logan Schultz.
