The Town of Selma hopes to open its recently purchased swimming pool on Friday, June 7. Before it can open, Town Manager Elton Daniels told town council at its May 8 meeting it must be staffed with lifeguards.
Parks and Recreation Director Joe Carter said his department is partnering with the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center for assistance.
Councilwoman Ann Williams said that for the first summer, the pool should be free for Selma residents.
“They should have to show identification which has a Selma address,” said Williams. “Children under age 10 should be accompanied by an adult.”
Williams also said the Boys and Girls Clubs of Johnston County should be allowed to use it for free. She also said there’s been discussion about renting the pool after hours for private parties.
