Glendale-Kenly Elementary School set Aug. 23 for unveiling of a new display case being built by Conestoga Wood Specialties Company of Kenly and donated to the school to be placed in its front hallway.
The case is the culmination of a history project that began last fall with a theme “The Past Meets the Present” with a goal of telling the story of former schools that have previously operated within the GKE district.
When Conestoga found out about project, company officials came on board and offered to build the cabinet.
The case will house historical memorabilia that has been collected by the school honoring the legacy of the Glendale and Kenly communities it serves.
“We plan to have a dessert social on that date for retired/former GKE staff members to celebrate the unveiling,” said GKE Principal Cole Yarborough. “The social will be from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. and we will drop the curtain at 4 p.m. An open house will follow immediately from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.”
The event is open to the public and all are invited, said Yarborough.
The school is located at 2001 Bay Valley Road in Kenly.
Production has begun at the Conestoga location at 621 Johnston Parkway in Kenly where the display case is being built.
