The North Johnston Little League (12U) all-star team claimed an opening round win over Cleveland last week in the Tar Heel League District V tournament but couldn’t quite get over the hump in a very competitive division and was unable to secure a spot in the state tournament.

A loss to an undefeated contingent from South Johnston set up a rematch against Cleveland and Cleveland got the better of it the second time around to turn back North Johnston.

In the team’s 11-9 win over Cleveland in the first meeting of the tournament, North Johnston twice rallied from behind and ultimately took control of the game with an eight-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning.

Alex Ramirez led off the frame with a single. Michael Linko came through with an RBI double while Daniel Turner drove in Linko with a groundball to third base to tie the game at 5-5.
