Selma Police chief retires after 23 years on the force

After Selma Police Chief Richard Cooper retires on Friday, Aug. 31, he said he’d be spending more time at the beach.

“I’ve bought a place and plan to enjoy it,” said Cooper. “But I also plan to work full-time in retail management.”

Cooper worked in retail management for 17 years before joining the Selma Police Department in 1995. During his 23-year law enforcement career, Cooper started as a patrolman and worked his way up the ladder to chief in 2014.
