Library plans teen board meeting

SMITHFIELD — The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield will hold an informational meeting for its Teen Advisory Board at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 in the 305 E. Market St. library’s boardroom.

Membership on the Teen Advisory Board is a yearlong commitment for youths 12-18 and volunteer hours are available. New members can join at the informational meeting’s conclusion.

Storytelling, scavenger hunt slated at Aycock Birthplace

FREMONT — In partnership with the Wayne County Public Library, the Gov. Charles B. Aycock Birthplace Historic Site will hold “Savvy Stories and Crafty Clues” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

Throughout the day, library staff will provide pop-up storytimes for children of all ages. A craft show will follow each storytime. Literary adventurers can take part in a scavenger hunt and use clues to discover a secret message.

Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to bring school supply donations, which will be collected on-site for Wayne County Public Schools. The historic site’s advisory committee will match all donations at a two-to-one ratio.

Church aims to pack its pews 

SELMA — United Faith Christian Church will participate in the national Back to Church Sunday campaign at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.

The vision of National Back to Church Sunday is to create a movement of churches encouraging their members to invite every person in America back to church.

After the worship service, there will be a covered- dish luncheon in the fellowship hall. United Faith Christian Church is located at 6254 N.C. 39 across from Godwin Music.

Movie night to feature ‘Coco’ 

SELMA — Town officials will show the Disney-Pixar movie “Coco” at the Zaxby’s Movie Night planned for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at Walker Auto Parts, 201 N. Raiford St. Admission is free.

The event will feature a bounce house, food, Tommy the Train rides and other family-friendly activities. The movie will start at dusk and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
