Two state senators win re-election, one new senator elected

SMITHFIELD–Two North Carolina state senators representing Johnston County won re-election Also winning Tuesday was a candidate for the state senate seat vacated by retiring District 12 State Sen. Ronald Rabin. Rabin has served three terms.

In District 10, Republican incumbent Brent Jackson defeated his Democratic challenger Vernon Moore, 33,26o (63%) to 19,939 (37%). Jackson won his fifth term in office.

In District 11, Republican incumbent Rick Horner defeated his Democratic challenger Al Pacer, 45,418 (57%) to 34,829 (43%). Horner won his second term.

In District 12, Republican Jim Burgin defeated Democrat Jean Sivoli, 33,268 (60%) to 22,603 (40%). Burgin is a Harnett County commissioner. Sivoli is chairman of the Harnett County Democratic Party.
