SMITHFIELD–Two Johnston County Board of Education members lost seats in Tuesday’s election. Three seats were up for grabs.
Vice Chairman Dorothy Johnson, who has served on the board since 1998, came in fourth place. The top three vote getters were Terri Sessoms, incumbent Todd Sutton and Tracie Zukowski. Incumbent Butler Hall, who has served since 2006, came in sixth place.
Here are the complete results, 38 out of 38 precincts counted: Sessoms, 31,349; Sutton, 26,030; Zukowski, 25,801; Johnson, 23,516; Jason Barbour, 22,837; Hall, 9,366; John Radford, 6,399; Jimmy Clapp, 5,821 and 294 write-in votes.
The Johnston County Republican Party disavowed two candidates, Hall, for failure to campaign and Barbour for his alleged campaign practices. Barbour threatened to sue the local GOP and the state GOP has threatened to sue him.
