CLAYTON — Clayton Area Ministries has moved to a to a vacant building at 780 Durham St. owned by the town of Clayton. The building was formerly a Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals animal shelter.

Previously, the agency operated out of an aging 1,000 square-foot house on Main Street.

Through this partnership, the town has agreed to lease the building to Clayton Area Ministries for a nominal fee. Dale Matthews, the nonprofit’s director, said months of mostly volunteer work and thousands of dollars in donations made the new facility possible.

Clayton Area Ministeries feeds about 700 people per month.
