SMITHFIELD — Police are working multiple leads to solve an Oct. 16 robbery at the Speedway convenience store at 1016 N. Brightleaf Blvd.

Capt. Ryan Sheppard said Smithfield police officers arrived at 12:34 a.m. and interviewed a Speedway clerk and customer, both of whom were unharmed.

The witnesses told police one robber was a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with his face covered. Sheppard said the man, who was armed with a handgun, entered the store and demanded money.

At the same time, a second man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt approached the customer outside the store and demanded property.

Sheppard said the robbers fled the area running toward Peedin Road. They took an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone.

“Investigators with our agency are working multiple leads in this case,” said Sheppard. “However, if anyone has any information in reference to this incident, we are asking that they contact us as soon as possible.”
