SMITHFIELD — The Johnston County Board of Education will name a new superintendent of schools on Wednesday, May 27.
The announcement, scheduled for roughly 6 p.m., will follow a closed-door discussion that will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Evander S. Simpson Building, 2320 U.S. 70 Business, Smithfield.
The board will stream the announcement at johnston.k12.nc.us/boelive.
The board received 31 applications for the post, and in a meeting on March 31, it agreed to interview seven, though one later dropped out.
Since then, the board has held a number of closed-door meetings to interview the candidates and discuss which one to hire.
The board has revealed no details about the candidates, opting instead to keep its search secret.
