SMITHFIELD — Police are working multiple leads in a June 3 shooting that wounded a 20-year-old man.

Capt. Ryan Sheppard said police were dispatched to the Pine Needle Shopping Center, 721 N. Smithfield Blvd., after reports of shots being fired. When police arrived at 9:37 p.m., Sheppard said neither a victim or shooter were located.

About two minutes later, Sheppard said police were dispatched to Lowe’s Home Improvement, 1230 N. Brightleaf Blvd., almost a mile away. The shooting victim, Jeffrey Williams, was found with a single gunshot wound. Sheppard said Williams confirmed the shooting took place at the Pine Needle Shopping Center.

Williams was taken to a regional hospital, said Sheppard, and his condition is unknown. Neither a motive nor the alleged shooter’s identity have been released.
