BENSON — The South Johnston Optimist Club is looking to make someone’s wallet a little thicker while getting financial support for some of its community support programs.

Club members are currently selling reverse raffle tickets with a top prize of $5,000 to the person holding the last ticket drawn when the lucky winner is picked Friday at the Benson American Legion building. The winner does not have to be present to claim the top prizes.

“Proceeds will help continue our support of Tutoring for Success, a joint effort between our club and Partnership for Children,” club President Ray Adams said. “It will also benefit the Four-Leaf Clover Program which provides meals to children and needy or elderly people in the community.”

Folks who purchase tickets are not only getting a chance at cash prizes. They will also get dinner for two and the chance to bid during a silent auction featuring local services and crafts, all being held the night of the drawing.

Other cash prizes included during the reverse raffle are $100 to the first ticket drawn, then $50 to the 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th, 150th, 175th, 200th, 225th, 250th and 275th ticket leading up to the 300th ticket, which will claim the top prize.

The Benson American Legion building is located at 605 N. Wall St. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Friday with dinner at 6 and the drawing starts at 7.

Tickets are available from Optimist Club members.
